Los Diarios Secretos de las Chicas (In)completas

Los Diarios Secretos de las Chicas (In)completas is a 4 episode scripted series produced by Lulo for Señal Colombia, one of the main public TV channels in Colombia. In this coming-of-age story, a sixteen-year-old soccer player dealing with osteosarcoma discovers a secret diary that magically connects her to girls in different realms who, like her, feel lost. Produced during the pandemic, the series combines live-action footage with animated sequences and VFX compositions.

As Director of Animation, I was in charge of deciding the show’s graphic style, following the Director and Art Director’s vision and feedback. I managed a team of animators and illustrators. I coordinated their daily assignments and provided them with direction and feedback on their illustrations and animations.

Moodboards

Following the journaling theme, we decided to use sketch-like illustrations drawn with pencil and rough brush strokes.

The animated sequences follow a surreal aesthetic, using abstract environments and objects, to illustrate the emotion-charged flashbacks and monologues.

Scribbles, drawings and sketches overlaid on footage help convey what the characters are thinking and imagining while writing in their journals.
